Remote Access: Create permanent links

OpenAthens uses a different technology than EZProxy to manage access to resources, which will change the syntaxes of the links to subscription online resources, like ebooks, journal articles, and databases.

You will need to update saved links. Links with the with the EZproxy prefix (https://ezproxy.depaul.edu/login?url=) will continue to work for now, but you will need to update bookmarked links and links in course materials before Autumn Quarter 2024.

How to update your links

• Search for and find the item in LibrarySearch and copy the permalink

• Copy links to databases from the A-Z Databases list

• Use the OpenAthens Link Generator

Links from EBSCO, Gale, Kanopy, O’Reilly, and ProQuest do not need to be “athenized.” Instead, use the permanent link generators from those databases.

Use the OpenAthens Link Generator to create permanent links to online library resources that allow on and off-campus access.

• Enter a permanent link from a publisher or vendor’s website

  • If entering a saved link, first remove the the EZproxy prefix (https://ezproxy.depaul.edu/login?url=) 

• Copy OpenAthens link

• Be sure to test your links before sharing them. 

• Links from EBSCO, GALE, Kanopy, O’Reilly, and ProQuest do not need to be “athenized.” Intsead, use the permanent link generators from those databases.
