Neuroscience Research Guide: Images, Data, Brain Maps

The NIF website offers a data-finding tool for searching across numerous neuroscience research studies and programs.

The NITRC website and its Image Repository offers freely accessible public image data, in addition to neuroimaging informatics tools and software. Led by University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA, and hosted by the Center for Research in Biological Systems (CRBS), an interdisciplinary collaborative research unit of the University of California, San Diego.

NeuroVault is a repository for collecting, preserving and sharing unthresholded statistical maps of the brain obtained from brain imaging studies using imaging techniques such as MRI or PET in a combined effort to map the functions and structures of the brain. Led by Chris Gorgolewski, a researcher in the Stanford Center for Reproducible Neuroscience. Refer to the FAQs for technical details on image data handling and analysis.

Provides access to data generated from research studies supported by the Collaborative Research in Computational Neuroscience (CRCNS), a joint initiative of the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health (to download data, you’ll first need to set up an account). Data sets include physiological recordings from sensory and memory systems, and also eye movement data.

Access research data, as well as data analysis software and visualizations associated with 20 or more “Human Connectome Projects” that are coordinated by the Connectome Coordination Facility (CCF), and funded by the National Institutes of Health.

The Image & Data Archive (IDA) hosts and provides tools and resources for analyzing, searching, visualizing and sharing a diverse range of data for neuroscience studies focused on development, aging and the progression of specific diseases. Open Use studies can be accessed by opening an IDA account, and other studies may be accessed through an application process. Administrated by the Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (LONI) at the University of Southern California, and funded by the National Institutes of Health & National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.
