Scholarly Communication

According to the Association of College & Research Libraries, scholarly communication is "the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use."

Forms of scholarly communication include:

  • peer-reviewed and open access journals
  • conference papers and presentations
  • data publication
  • informal methods of communication such as e-mail listservs, blog posts, etc.

Librarians can assist with:

  • identifying peer-reviewed journals that suit your manuscript
  • managing data
  • publishing in an institutional repository
  • finding information about copyright, fair use, and author rights

Please contact your library liaison for more information.

Getting Published

Books on Scholarly Publishing

Using the LibrarySearch tool, guidance on publishing your systematic review can be found in books in book chapters, such as THESE (the specific process of publishing a systematic review ‘protocol’ is dealt with separately in the 'Protocol & Searching' section of this guide).
