For transactional lawyers a "precedent" is a transactional document (like a purchase or loan agreement) that has been used in a previous deal. Often firms or companies may have their own "in-house" databases which contain "in-house precedents". Understanding how to access these various in-house work product retrieval systems will be important if one is working in transactional practice. These in-house systems will likely differ from one employer to another.
