Business Law embraces many branches of the law that involve the operation of a business, from start-up to dissolution. This libguide will focus solely on business entities & business organizations (including resources regarding Illinois business organizations).
In its nascent or beginning stages, "...business law involves the selection of a business entity, whether sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability corporation (LLC); or corporation or S-corporation. The primary aim of this process is to shield its owners from individual liability. This will involve filing necessary documents with the Secretary of State of the state in which the business is organized, as well as the city or town in which the business is situated. Businesses that are expected to collect sales tax must also register with state taxing authorities." (Kendall Svengalis - author of Legal Information Buyer's Guide & Reference Manual (2021 ed.) Additional sources will be added to this libguide as they become available.
