General Secondary Sources

Using General Secondary Sources, such as Legal Encyclopedias (e.g., American Jurisprudence 2d, available in both Westlaw and Lexis+), can give you a good overview of a topic. Nutshells give a brief overview of a subject/topic while Hornbooks are more scholarly treatises on a certain subject/topic. (Both are available within West Academic Study Aids.)

These can often be invaluable when you are preparing for trial in a certain practice area.
