DePaul University Library Catalog Search

Subject searching vs keyword searching

In keyword searching, you can use your vocabulary and the catalog searches for those terms. With subject searching, you must use a specific controlled vocabulary, Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) to search for items.  An easy way to search by subject is to start with a keyword search.  Once you have found a book on your topic, click on a subject heading Subject (LCSH) to get other items with that same subject heading.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar Search

Search for the Article directly via Google Scholar.

You can apply settings to your Google Scholar searches by logging into Google (you must set up a Google account or have a gmail email account to login). We recommend adding "DePaul University" to your list of libraries in order for your results to specifically link to DePaul print and electronic holdings directly. Once you apply these settings, whenever you login and perform a Google Scholar search with the "article" filter selected; your list of results should provide you with direct links to DePaul holdings if available.

Finding Journals at DePaul

Search for the Journal by title (i.e. journal or newspaper the article was published in) within DePaul's holdings (print and electronic) for availability.

Searching by Journal Title yields DePaul’s Holdings of the Journal (print or electronic) via the library catalog and provides item information for exact location of the journal in the library, call number, and library branch if applicable and/or a link to online access.
